AGNIS for NIS 2002: NIS 4.0 Ad Block List
AGNIS for NIS 2002: NIS 4.0 Ad Block List

No Longer Available

AGNIS for Norton Internet Security 2002 v. 4.0 has been withdrawn. The standard AGNIS block list for NIS (found on THIS page) is compatible with NIS 2002 v. 4.0. It should be used instead of the custom block list for NIS 2002 that was previously available on this page.

NIS 2002 v. 4.0 users should uninstall the version of AGNIS for NIS 2002 block list that was previously available from this page. See the next section for uninstallation instructions. Once you have uninstalled that obsolete block list, you can install the standard AGNIS block list, which is compatible with NIS 2002 v. 4.0.

Uninstallation

An uninstaller package is available below. This uninstaller package includes all the files you need to uninstall the AGNIS for NIS 2002 ad block list. To uninstall the AGNIS for NIS 2002 block list you can either uninstall it manually or use the UNINST.BAT batch file utility that is included with the uninstaller package. A copy of these uninstallation instructions is included in the uninstaller package.

Manual Uninstallation

To uninstall AGNIS for NIS 2002 manually:

  1. Download the uninstaller package (UNINST.ZIP / UNINST.EXE) available below on this page and unpack it.

  2. Disable NIS 2002 4.0.

  3. Doubleclick on UNINST.REG to merge it into the Registry. This .REG file will remove only the entries that were enabled by default in the AGNIS for NIS 2002 ad block list. Any additions made by you will be preserved.

  4. Shut down your computer and reboot.

  5. Download and install the standard AGNIS ad block list available on this same page.

Automated Uninstallation (w/ UNINST.BAT)

To uninstall AGNIS for NIS 2002 with the UNINST.BAT:

  1. Download the uninstaller package (UNINST.ZIP / UNINST.EXE) available below on this page and unpack it.

  2. Disable NIS 2002 4.0.

  3. Run UNINST.BAT to start the uninstaller utility.

The uninstaller utility gives you a menu of options which is identical to the AGNIS.BAT utility that was included with the AGNIS for NIS 2002 ad block list with one difference: the INSTALL option has been replaced with an UNINSTALL option. All the other options on the main menu are the same (BACKUP, CLEAR, RESTORE, EDIT).

To simply uninstall AGNIS for NIS 2002, choose UNINSTALL from the main menu. If a straight uninstallation is all you wish to do, then you are finished.

If you wish to BACKUP the current ad block list or completely CLEAR the current ad block list, select the appropriate option on the main menu. Keep in mind that choosing CLEAR will remove all entries, including custom entries that you might have yourself to the Sites list.

Also, note that the uninstaller will automatically backup your current block list, just in case you need to use it again.

If you mistakenly choose CLEAR and then decide that you want to restore your previous ad block list and start over again, choose RESTORE from the main menu.

If you wish to use a backup of a previous ad block list that you made when originally installing AGNIS for NIS 2002, copy that backup (which should be named NIS-Back.reg) to the directory where you unpacked the uninstaller before you run UNINST.BAT. The uninstaller batch file will use that backup when you select the RESTORE option from the main menu.

  4. Once you have finished, EXIT from the uninstaller.

  5. Shut down your computer and reboot.

  6. Download and install the standard AGNIS ad block list available on this same page.

Notes on Uninstallation

The "Not for Everyone" section in the UNINST.REG will uninstall only entries that were enabled by default in the AGNIS for NIS 2002 ad block list. If you enabled any entries in that section yourself (by removing the ; before the entries you wanted to enable), then you should do the same with the UNINST.REG file before using it.

The UNINST.REG will NOT remove individual ad blocking strings (e.g., ads-01, ads-02, etc.). Those entries are compatible with the standard AGNIS ad block list available above on this page. When you install the standard AGNIS ad block list, that block list will simply combine the remaining entries from the NIS 2002 4.0 specific list with the standard AGNIS ad block list.
