I created a google news alert for spyware and the last two days I have gotten several good ones. Here's little excerps from some of the articles and links to them.

MARCH 24, 2004 (IDG NEWS SERVICE) - Authors of a U.S. Senate bill that attempts to outlaw spyware and some adware are headed in the right direction, IT vendor representatives told a Senate subcommittee yesterday. But the bill's efforts to define an illegal type of software could lead to confusion.
Instead of trying to define spyware and outlaw some types of technology, senators should focus on outlawing the illegal actions that spyware allows, including the secret collection of consumer data, said Robert Holleyman, president and CEO of the Business Software Alliance. |

Computer spyware is noxious and harmful and must be stopped as soon as people can figure out exactly what it is, members of a Senate subcommittee said on Tuesday.
Programs that secretly track computer users' activities are becoming an online scourge rivaling "spam" e-mail and should be outlawed before they prompt consumers to abandon the Internet, members of the Senate communications subcommittee said.

| Avi Z. Naider, who is the chairman of WhenU.com Inc., said that the proposed legislation would lump responsible companies like his with Internet pirates. |

I wouldn't expect WhenU to be enthusiastic about anti-spyware legislation.

It's a good thing that spyware is getting all this coverage and people are talking about it. Now, if they will just *do* something...
PS - I just read that it's a copyright violation to post the entire contents of news articles in most cases. Better to post an except and link to the article. _________________ Former Microsoft MVP 2005-2009, Consumer Security
