Check this out -

Hotbar is setting to break its own record.
Is now trying to lure users to download it as a price comparison tool calling it shopperreport or pricetool

http://shopperreports.pricetool.com/

I'm sure this will go unnoticed by the LS people...

Hotbar pricetool shopperreport spamblockerutility wowpapers estationary weathertool - so many names for one malicious software.

These guys are creative ! Too bad they don't work for LS.

.... wait a second - are you sure they don't ?!

Alright Jack, now you've already been informed by LS that, even tho they profile users personally identifiable habits, make use of an uncontrolled backdoor to load unwanted and unasked for wares(major sec breach), magnify your bandwidth usage in order to track your every move, make awfull intrusive ads that take over your browser with add-ons and popups, claims in mass spam generation to be a MS update, causes thousands of reported sys conflicts, is targeted by all good anti-spy tools and some AVs, it is not a nasty worthy of targeting because you are plainly told near the bottom of a click thru EULA and mixed in with a few hundred words of legaleze that they do in fact spy on their users which of course should be enough to make any user aware.

You've even been told this stuff by LS here on this board as well as by other respected members of this board/community who have been considered experts in the field.

Can't you understand that you shouldn't question the judgement of the 'hollier than thou' bunch. What they tell you has to be right and how dare you question their motives or judgement.

BTW Didn't you mean to say that LS works for Hotbar and not the other way around?

Good, cause I'm sure you don't want to imply anything like LS might not be ad aware. Smile

BTW Under the circumstances, I guess I should change my signature now even tho I've used it for many years now.

Jack...

Must say that was a very interesting thread at LS...and very dissappointing.

Kinda reflects real-world realities, eh?

Criminals walking away from courts every day on a "technicality".

Whoever has the deepest pockets, primarily lawyerwise, wins.

What really grinds my ass about all of this is crap happening on the Internet is how slack governments and legislators are about doing anything about any of it. I don't believe there isn't the means to deal; what is missing is the will.

And before I get into a rant...

Cheers for making an issue of this at LS!

Super

By the time I discovered the thread it had been locked down.

IMHO, LS is jamming out big time on this one. It sets a precedence that will come back to haunt them.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Spybot S&D. Certainly they must be next on someone's list of things to go after.

Anyhoo, ya did good!

Actually, PMK has been threatened many times now. So far he has held steadfast in his convictions and resolve.

Even if a slander case should ever go to court. IMO as well as many others, it would simply be a frivolous act intending to frighten him into submission. Bot killing devs are responsible only to their users wishes. As long as no lable is falsely placed on a product, there is no slander. Every target SSD makes is scrutinized and documented thoroughly before release.

If you notice in the SSD detections, all items are catogorized. In PMK's target criteria, he has tried very hard to separate these catogories making it harder for the snakes to play name games; http://www.safer-networking.org/en/targetpolicy/index.html

PMK gives his users what they have asked for in the form of removal routines for products specifically requested by his users. It may only be a type of technicality but the fact that each detection has been requested lessens the liability.

Again, devs are only responsible to their users.

BTW I'm almost certain that as new scams and exploits appear, this criteria will be amended.
