Had a brief power outage and now i can't log on my dual boot (win xp) ubuntu. I get this

Gnu-Grub version 1.98-1ubuntu 5

Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible comand completions. Anywhere else TAB lists possible device or file comletions.

grub>

My window loads fine, thanks for any help thank u.

I'd suggest you check at the Ubuntu forum for that. I don't know if we have anyone here knowledgable about Ubuntu.

Grub is the bootloader, so the error/issue is before Ubuntu loads. Since Windows still loads, that helps make it easier, since you won't have to mess with that. Grub version 1.98 means you have Grub2, so the info at this link should help. there's a lot there, but if the recovery doesn't work, you can try to reinstall Grub.

To be safe, I would back up anything from Windows and use the Ubuntu disk to boot into Ubuntu to save anything there first. Download the ubuntu installer if you don't have it on a disk or bootable thumb drive already.
