I want to know how to lower or disable the permissions. For instance when moving files from one folder to another I get a message that I need pernission to move the file and then when I give permission it won't let me move it! It'll say try again and when I try again I still get blocked from moving the file. Mad What do I do to fix this?

Thanks Wink

Normally you shouldn't have any problems from a non system folder.

Is it happening with all files in the older or only certain ones?

I think all files are having the problem. It comes and goes. For instance I try to move a file at one time and it doesn't work, but when I come back to it later it works fine. Confused

Rather than keep running into this problem I'd like to just adjust the permissions so that it never happens again.

It's unusual that it comes and goes.

Anyway when I get a chance, I'll post information on how to reset the permissions for folders and see how that goes.

And Roger I know it's a bit off topic but can you give me any idea as to why Vista takes so long to move files. I know sometimes the files are large, but I've seen it take up to 20 minutes to move a batch of files and this gets on my nerves. I NEVER remember xp taking anywhere near that long.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Regards,

I'll get back to you soon about the file permissions.

But to address the issue of speed. How much memory do you have installed in your computer - ideally you should have at least 2 gigabytes for Vista. If you only have 1 gigabyte and have a lot of programs running, Vista will get low on memory and run slowly.

Secondly, antivirus software can cause slowdowns. What antivirus are you running?

Also, generally speaking, you should never have more than one antivirus program installed or it can lead to a bug loss in performance (amongst other issues).

Hi and sorry for the late reply. I have 8 gb of memory. And I'm running AVG Antivirus. It's the only antivirus I have.
