Personal Guard 2009 keeps popping up and stating that my computer is seriously infected. I cannot get it to stop. The program wants me to buy it for 49.99. I do not want to do that. The program doesn't look legit to me. Task manager has been disabled. Tried to remove with spybot and adaware. We are now running McAfee. None of these will take care of it. We downloaded HiJack This from Trend Micro and here are the logs.

I'm Bob4, I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Before we start: Please be aware that removing Malware can be a hazardous undertaking.
I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer.
However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those
we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter
situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

In light of this it would be wise for you to back up any files and folders that you don't want to lose before we start.

Please observe these rules while we work:

  • Perform all actions in the order given.
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Do not add any programs while were cleaning your machine.
  • Stick with it till you're given the all clean speech.
  • REMEMBER, ABSENCE OF SYMPTOMS DOES NOT MEAN THE INFECTION IS ALL GONE.

If you can do these things, everything should go smoothly.

IMPORTANT
When you download this tool I want you to rename it before downloading.
Rename it to

svchost.com (NO EXE)

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. For information on how to disable your anti virus program please see this:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html

When it's done it shall produce a log for you.
POST that for me
and a new Hijackthis (HJT) log.

Nice work !! Very Happy
I'm sure things are looking better but let's make sure we get it all.

Update Java Runtime

You are using an old and vulnerable version of Java. The latest isJava Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 16.

  • Go to Java Site
  • Click to Download Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 16
  • In Platform box choose Windows.
  • Check the box to Accept License Agreement and click Continue.
  • Click on Windows Offline Installation, click on the link under it which says "jre-6u16-windows-i586-p.exe" and save the downloaded file to your desktop.
  • Go to Start => Control Panel => Add or Remove Programs
  • Uninstall all old versions of Java (Java 3 Runtime Environment, JRE or JSE)
  • Install the new version by running the newly-downloaded file with the java icon which will be at your desktop, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Reboot your computer

______________________________________________
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please post the contents of that log.

If you accidently close it you may find it here.

Downloaded and ran all you asked us to. It removed 23 trojans and 9 worms. Downloaded and ran ESET. Somehow lost the log file and cannot get it to run again. Here is what I have. The internet provider is North Central Communications which has recently been sold to Omnicity.

Well everthing looks ok.

The log for Nod32 should be here.
C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt

If not let's get another online scan.

This scan will take a while.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan. This scan will take a while so don't plan on watching it. Wink

  1. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  2. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  3. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  4. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  5. Click on My Computer under Scan.
  6. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  7. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  8. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  9. Please post this log in your next reply.

Post the log from one of the online scans.

How do things seem to be running ?

We will take care of those items found by Kasperskys and inside spybots recovery center.

Great news !

Your log now appears to be clean.

Lets do a few things to tidy up.
Please do these in the order I suggest!

_______________________________________
Download and install CCleaner from here

If you use either the Firefox/ Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for Cookies (using ccleaner) is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.

  • Set Cookie Retention.
Click on the Options block on the left, then choose Cookies.
Under the Cookies to delete pane, highlight any cookies you would like to retain permanently (those companies or sites with which you regularly visit or do business), and click the right arrow > to move them to the Cookies to keep pane.

  • Reset Temp File Removal for Regular Use.
Click on the Options block on the left. Select the Advanced button.
Check "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours".

  • Recycle Bin
Make sure there is nothing that you may want in the recycle bin. If there is move it somewhere safe. You may want to do this.
Under system uncheck Empty recycle bin

Now run the program by clicking on Run Cleaner

( Do not use the Registry function to clean anything with this program. Having anything auto clean your regisrty is risky).

Open up spybot search and destroy.
Click the recovery button.

Place a check by everything in there
then at the top click purge selected items

_______________________________________
So many people are point and click crazy either because there naive or their in a rush.

Always watch closely to any software your installing.
If they want to install something more than their program stop right there and investigate what it is they want to place on your computer.
If they give you the option not to install it choose that until you investigate it completely.
The more you install that you don't want or need the more you'll wish you didn't.

Here's a site with great advise on how to AVOID malware. Much easier to do than removing it.

Safe and Happy Surfing. Smile
