News story (found on stopbadware.org's group):

It's about time someone went after WinFixer. It makes one wonder why it is so hard to take them down when there is a money trail involved. It seems feasible to me that one could cut off their access to money (i.e. Visa and MasterCard), and if so, then it should whither and die. Or am I missing something? |

Even though there is a money trail, from what I've heard, it's been hard to pin down exactly who is responsible for WinFixer and WinSoftware.
It's very good news that the bad guys have been identified -- hopefully they will get their just rewards.
Edit -- I think this blog was done by the same attorney that's filed the lawsuit.

I found a good news story at Networkworld.com that covers this. It's estimated that these crooks have made as much as $150 million over the years peddling Winfixer and it's clones.
We should Digg it. _________________ Nick's Security Ticker

The multi-gigabyte database -- apparently left unsecured and open to the Internet -- contained names, addresses, credit-card numbers, transaction amounts and the version of Winfixer that was sold, he said.

In my blog comment, someone reported illegal billings (not for charge Winantiviruspro) with his credit card on next day of the purchased.
Who is responsible for? |
