OK, the local telephone company is my ADSL provider and used to have a relatively spam free e-mail service. But, alas, they fell into the grip of SBC about 18 months ago and Yahoo was forced on me against my will. Conservatively, even after having enabled the Yahoo spam filter and purchased Norton Internet Security which provides a decent anti-spam program, I'd guess 90-95% of the mail that reaches me here is pure junk, you know, penis enlargement or Cialis deals (I mean, really, at age 65 and with borderline high-blood pressure, I should be so lucky as to be a prospect for such meshugass ) or land opportunities in Uzbekistan. Might someone be so kind as to recommend a good, free e-mail service, one without ads or other cripling invasions of privacy? If there are good anti-spyware and other useful programs out there, certainly there ought to be an e-mail nirvana somewhere, eh?

You might try mailwasher. I use it to delete from server.
It won't stop the SPAM, but it does at least allow one to delete it before it gets into the machine.
For email, I find Thunderbird has all the feel of OE but without the Security Compromises.
Mailwasher. To safely preview and delete email, amongst other uses. _________________ Proud member of the Chest Zipper Club! |

GMail has a pretty good spam blocker (sends it all to a spam folder), and is free, and has LOTS of space. However, its still in the beta version and you have to get an invite I think. If you PM me I think I can find an invite, though I might not be available for a few days...

Yahoo is pretty good with the bulk email folder when you have it enabled. It gets 99.995% of my spam in there. I always doublecheck it since some real email gets in tyhere, sometimes. I think the total amount of spam that got into the main email is about 5 or 6 over a period of 5 years. So it works well for me. _________________ For this is the place

K9 (http://www.keir.net/k9.html) is a good anti-spam program.
I no longer look on spam as an annoyance to be deleted. I see it as a chance to train my K9. _________________ Because I can't surf DSLR at work. |

OK, I have to respond because I switched to SBC Yahoo DSL about 6 months ago and have not received one spam email so far from the service. True, they do give you a Yahoo email address but you should also have an sbcglobal.net email address which can be incorporated into email clients like Outlook Express.
A lot of the time, spam is generated by how the email address is used. If you do a lot of online shopping and use it as a contact email, expect a lot of spam. If you place the email address on your website as a contact link, expect a lot of spam. If you sign up for all kinds of online services using the email address as a contact, expect a lot of spam. You'd be shocked at how many times your email address can be sold by businesses or picked up by bots every time you make it available to the mass public. _________________ nomorespyware |
