So this is not a beta? Should the old version be uninstalled first? Thanks for the info! _________________ Former Microsoft MVP 2005-2009, Consumer Security

It is not actually necessary to uninstall the 1.2 version, however, a reboot is necessary before running the new 1.3 version.
However, many(myself included) are disabling program processes, uninstalling, rebooting (otherwise SD helper won't delete), deleting any left over program files, clean registry ( I use RegSeeker), and then install new verison. _________________ Chachazz

Anyone else running Spybot 1.3 on a 98 or ME system notice that they have a massive drop in System Resources? On my ME box, it is using about 35% or more of them..... _________________ Nick's Security Ticker

nick did you use the tea timer or that other system monitoring thing? if so thats whats killing your resources.
it will conflict with start up cop or start up monitor. and i could not quite figure out what other spyware program its was conflicting with. i did not enable them this install of spybot.maby uninstall and reinstall with out checking those two options to run. _________________ RFID tags! SPYWARE

It's not Tea Timer, as I didn't allow it after uninstalling Spybot and cleaning every trace of it from my computer and then doing a clean install. I'm seeking help over at Lurkhere to see what Mike and the experts there have to say about it. N-I is overloaded right now with Spybot help requests but I'm looking around there too. _________________ Nick's Security Ticker

The real time monitoring is the Tea Timer thing. There's also a BHO that blocks some adware and cookies. In any event, neither of those are enabled right now, I have other items that can protect me. I have zero problems until I start Spybot itself, then there's a massive loss in system resources, 30% or more. Anyways, IE Spyad has been updated, so I need to go post about that. Will let you know what the problem solution is regarding Spybot. _________________ Nick's Security Ticker

1.3 FRC has bugs, and was released known to be so.
DSO Exploits are not - cannot, be removed. Patrick is working on a fix for this. |

For anyone else who is new to all the unsolicited persistent pop-up crap that invades our life on the net...................
Having spent the last month being plagued by pop-ups for USAplatinum cards, UK GrandWINNER, and what I suspected were bogus virus killers which tried to piggy-back on McAfee alerts, etc, etc, I decided today to do something about it!
1)I went on the doxdesk.com site and learnt about the problems.
2) I tried to fix it the long hard way and wasted more time than I care to think about.
3) I decided to download Spybot S&D (from PCworld site) FREE!!
4) It was easy to use and identified 82 entries, and fixed 79 of them, and suggested I re-start to fix the others, which I did.
5) It then restarted and killed off 5 other entries which were "DSO Exploit"
parasites.
6) It then recommended I instal spywareblastersetup.exe from www.majorgeek.com which I did. FREE!!!!!
And now everything seems a lot quicker ......... and NO POP-UPs!!!!!!!!! (touch wood)
If you are going to do this, read the Spybot terms of use just as you are installing and say a prayer for Patrick and his woman. I am off to bed now, but not before I have done this crucial step.
I want to thank any and every one of you out there who is trying to make the internet a better place to be. _________________ let's keep it simple so a monkey from Mars can understand |
