McAfee verifies it is an infected file being downloaded from Eric's link
https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/merijn/HijackThis.exe

http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp?id=description&virus_k=100342

Any feedback welcome.

Please let me know if you think this a false positive. Or if you just think McAfee is wrong?

You nee to update your McAfee, read below, from Merijns site from Feb 16:

It seems McAfee is detecting the new HijackThis version as W32/Generic.worm!p2p. It is not the first time this happened and probably not the last time either. There is no virus in HijackThis. McAfee incorrectly detects the PE compression method I use on all of my programs as a generic Kazaa worm. I will try to contact McAfee about this and see if the incorrect detection can be removed in their next update.
[Update ] Success! McAfee has put out new definitions that no longer detect HijackThis 1.99.1 as a virus.

Is norton's trying to keep user from downloading their software?

Twisted Evil

Its not right but their software keeps the small guys from doing business. Why don't you try?

I recently visited Merijin.org's website and was able to download the file without being flagged by McAfee antivirus. Why is that? How come I can download from 1 site and not another? If they are both legit files their should be no difference correct?

Still confused. Just want to let the admin know? Perhaps the file is infected? Nortan shows no reports that I can find of flagging this file falsely with the current updates.
