OK, long story....
Background info:
Dell Inspiron 4100 laptop in my shop here.
It came in with a mess of uglies, so as requested by the owner I wiped it and installed XPPro.
Updated to SP2 behind my router and hub.
Turned off the windows ICF
Downloaded Zone Alarm and tried to install it.
True Vector would not initialise.
I searched the ZA forums, and tried a few thing, then said screw it.
Wiped the drive again, and reinstalled XP Pro as above.
Googled Zone Alarm
Up at the top of the results is the Sponsored Links.
One would assume, since there are only two, that they would be legit.
Particularly so because the legit ZA link goes directly to the ZA homepage, and the second refers to the Free Version of ZA.
1)Download Zone Alarm
the URL is www.zonealarm.com
Reasonable enough....so I clicked it.
2)Free Firewall from www.uant.net
Reasonable enough....so I clicked it. I want the free version on this machine anyways.
This page opens:
www.uant.net/firewall/zonealarmguide.html?osadcampaign=googleza
On that page, there is an Installation Guide
Step1)close ALL your other window applications
Step2)Click to download Pre-Scan Utility for Zone Alarm
Reasonable enough, I clicked.
The next page took me to www.noadware.net and offered to Scan your PC for FREE!
WTF??????????
Does ZA know about this?
Does Google know about this?
Is this a reason so many people are getting infected?
Thoughts, opinions appreciated _________________ Proud member of the Chest Zipper Club! |

This is a keyword for sale that noadware and other not so up standing security software uses. I had to alert Lavasoft a week back as they also used Lavasoft keyword for sponsored "free download"
Guess what one of those that I monitor and they keep after everybody about them not being spyware: Spywarenuker
Google Spywarenuker
| Quote: |
Spywarenuker Removal Tool
Free download, 3 million users -aff
Delete Spyware and Viruses!
NoAdware.net
Spyware Nuker
Free software to detect and remove
Spyware and adware from your PC
www.BulletProofSoft.com |
Even BulletProofSoft uses their name as a keyword and spywarenuker use to sell their hacked clone.
Zone Alarms needs to have their marketing department contact Google and tell them they want their name as a keyword to STOP _________________ Wächter der Geschichten:

Source code for that page:
http://www.uant.net/firewall/zonealarmguide.html?osadcampaign=googleza
| Code: |
<span lang="zh-tw"><font face="Times New Roman">2. Click to Download <b>
<a href="javascript:Start('http://www.uant.net/spyadware/noadwarenow.html')">
Pre-Scan Utility for ZoneAlarm</a>

Take a look at this - you can't trust the Google sponsored links.

I moved this because the public needs to know about it.
Update - this site is evil IMO. It's already one the Rogue siites list.

On this page:

| 2. Click to Download Pre-Scan Utility for Symantec to Scan Your Computer for possible Spyware/Adware Infections. To make your computer more stable you are advised to Remove all Infections from Your Computer before Installation. |
The "Pre-Scan Utility for Symantec" is also a link for noadware.
| Code: |
Click to Download <b>
<a href="javascript:Start('http://www.uant.net/spyadware/noadwarenow.html')">
Pre-Scan Utility for Symantec</a>
</b>
to Scan Your Computer for possible Spyware/Adware |
That's blatantly misleading as is the "Zone Alarm" link. Somehow I don't think Zone Labs or Symantec would be happy with this site. _________________ Former Microsoft MVP 2005-2009, Consumer Security
