Being a spam zombie is only one of many reasons to gain remote access of small or large sys. While commercial scams such as 'zombie spam' are the biggest ploys, there are also the mundane reasons such as using your sys in a DDoS attack or other criminal activity. And then of course there is always the simple identity theft scams too. Doesn't really take too much imagination to figure out why folks want control of your box/es.
Oh and let's not forget to mention the reason for plain spyware; data mining is a very large and profitable business now. Marketeers want your profile for the 'hard sell'. Data mining is a multi-BILLION dollar industry called 'advertising'. But don't for a minute think that the worlds govs don't also have a hand in the dbs. |
