LOL, this story reminds me of a story I read on Steve Gibson's site ( GRC.com ) when he dealt with what turned out to be a arrogant 14 year old who thought he was cool because he attacked the GRC site with a bot he got his hands on and modified a bit.
To put what happened in a nutshell he created a shell to capture the bot and reverse engineered it to see who originally created it. he located the originator and he told him who he sold the bot to. He then contacted the kid and basicly told him to stop screwing around or else. The kid responded by attacking his site again. Mr Gibson responded by unleashing a couple of nasties on the kids computer, and he never had a problem from him again. |

Oh boy, now YOU'VE reminded me, with the mention of youthful omniscience, of an old chestnut I came across long, long ago (in a galaxy far, far away) regarding a teen hacker who was trying to impersonate an email admin (AOL I think, tells you just how old the story is) to get users to fork over their passwords, and came nose to nose with the Real Deal.
Long story short, the *real* sysadmin played along with the kid for a bit, then lowered the boom. At one point he even told young Neo "Naw...I'm not really the Server Admin" "Oh, WHEW" "Actually, I'm with the FBI" and agents were already en route, or something like that. The kid's reaction was absolutely priceless.
It was, hands down, one of the funniest anecdotes I have ever read (and I've read, even lived, a few, lol). If anyone out there knows what I'm talking about and can find the original, I will send you chocolate!!
(though I might have to wait for summer heat to abate a bit ;o))
