It sounds like packets are being dropped at some point. If packet loss is the cause, there could be dozens of possible causes...anything from DNS poisoning to a faulty modem and much in between. I've seen several cable modems failing recently and I think they were recycled(previously used).
If it is packet loss, you may be able to determine where the prob is by running a few consecutive tracerts for any online domain to see which node is failing. I often use the spywarewarrior.com domain. Anyway, if you see a loss at the first node, then the prob is likely with your modem. If there is a loss shown at any other node, then you should probably take the issue to your provider which is probably the best idea to start with.
As noted, there are many possible causes for your prob. I think, to try and diagnose this type of situation online is folly. However, someone else might have a better suggestion.
Sorry I can't be of much help here. If you want to find a tracert tool other than Windows' own, you can google up 'tracert' (traceroute) and find many free networking apps that include it.
I hope you are able to find a solution quickly.

I am not sure what i need to do to get this? Would you be able to help me?
I was having an issue with the internet for the last 2 months, http://spywarewarrior.com/viewtopic.php?t=30817&highlight=slow where pages wont load when my pc and laptop are on the net at the same time. It seems to be working ok at the moment, but downloads do not work on the pc.. (they work fine on laptop) |

I got this to work eventually...
This is what I done in case anyone else has the problem,
Go to c:/documents and settings/user/local settings / temp
right click the temp folder and uncheck read only.
Go to control panel, internet options
Under browsing history press delete, then ok
This worked for me and downloads have been fine since. |
