SoftWin have just released the 2009 version of their free antivirus software.

BitDefender Free Edition 2009 is a powerful tool against viruses, spyware and other malware using state-of-the-art technology from BitDefender labs.

The mission of this tool is to ensure detection and removal of all viruses in the wild. BitDefender Free Edition 2009 uses robust scan engines, certified by ICSA Labs, Virus Bulletin and Checkmark and is designed as an on-demand scanner that will check your system for viruses and spyware.

Does not offer real time protection, but has automatic updates and scheduled scans.

The 2009 version supports Vista.

BitDefender is one of the best antivirus programs with similar detection rates to Kaspersky, so this would make an excellent 2nd scanner, or the primary one if you have no need for real time protection. Since it doesn't have real time proection it can be installed alongside other antivirus software.

After having run a scan, I have found that BitDefender is not only to automatically, disinfect/delete all found infections - and this can not be changed. For files which couldn't be disinfected, at the end of the scan you can choose what you want to do, but for things like trojans they are deleted automatically.

Also deleted files are not quarrantined.

Let me see if I understand properly. You joined here just to make a single post tooting BD after they sold out their users. I wouldn't call that spam but it does make me wonder about your agenda and your relationship with these scum-peddlers.

Perhaps you can answer a question for me;

Personally, I think sleaze is just sleaze at any degree and should not be tolerated by the very same pri/sec community this so called sec product professes to serve.

There are plenty of good products around. So why would anyone wish to support a product that has sold out it's users by the means of subjecting it's users to sleazy marketing practices?

Scum is scum, no matter the degree.
