Thanks TeMerc. I thought this was worthy of its own thread, so I split it from the old one.
The instructions say to open SpywareBlaster and disable all protection. Then uninstall it from add/remove programs in the control panel. Then you are ready to download and install the new version.
I wonder why a new version so soon...

Because it wasn't working correctly with my Firefox and Mozilla 1.6 browsers. It was only cookie protection but I'll see how it goes when I upgrade.
Also, some of the IE restricted sites weren't done properly and were being removed by IE Spyad updates.
Also, some Win 98 users weren't able to run SpywareBlaster 3.0 at all.
I will now go investigate. _________________ Nick's Security Ticker

Well, the good news is that Active X and IE cookie prtection is still valid and Ok, but I am still having no luck with the Firefox and Mozilla 1.6 cookie protection. For 90% or more of you reading this, you have no problems to worry about. I'll have to look into this with more detail later. _________________ Nick's Security Ticker

SpywareBlaster 3.1 should work with Mozilla 1.7 and up & Firefox 0.8 and up (including the latest nightly builds of FF and the betas of Moz 1.7).
Mozilla 1.7 will be the new long-lived stable branch, and recent changes in the configuration setup forced me to rewrite the support completely. So SB will not support anything older than a 1.7 version of Mozilla.

That should be fixed in 3.1

I'm hoping that I was able to fix the Windows 98 compatibility issues as well. I'll have to wait for the reports from users, because I was completely unable to reproduce the problem on Windows 98 or ME here.
Best regards,

Ah, that explains why my Mozilla 1.6 cookie file isn't being updated at all. My Firefox cookie files are in a Phoenix directory, since I didn't delete that when I upgraded from Firebird. SpywareBlaster sees it, and adds the bad cookie sites to the cookiePerm file, but the codes are different., so Firefox is not seeing them.
I'll look into it some more later after I go to all of the various forums I visit, and check up on Hijack logs. _________________ Nick's Security Ticker

Thank you Suzi, I appreciate it. I have WAY too many friends and family who have NO IDEA of security. So, it seems to have helped a bunch, and some others have found it as well. Nice to be of service to others. Thanks again. _________________

*cough* what about poor old Opera? Hardly ever hear anyone say much about it
I have all the usual protection on this machine anyways because yon kidlet is always hopping on here with IE and after I finish building him his own it also will be well protected.
But seriously folks, what about Opera? _________________ Proud member of the Chest Zipper Club! |

Well I sure do enjoy this forum! Good info.
I upgraded to mozilla 1.7 from 1.6
From Mozill Webpage:
"Mozilla 1.7 size and performance have improved dramatically with this release. When compared to Mozilla 1.6, Mozilla 1.7 Beta is 7% faster at startup, is 8% faster at window open time, has 9% faster pageloading times, and is 5% smaller in binary size."
This makes the download worthwhile on its own.
Now I am further protected by SpywareBlaster........Way toooo go Javacool! _________________ It's all star dust |

Javacool has come out with a new utility, SpywareGuard 2.2. The following is from that link:
"SpywareGuard provides a real-time protection solution against spyware that is a great addition to SpywareBlaster's protection method.
An anti-virus program scans files before you open them and prevents execution if a virus is detected - SpywareGuard does the same thing, but for spyware! And you can easily have an anti-virus program running alongside SpywareGuard.
SpywareGuard now also features Download Protection and Browser Hijacking Protection!
Features Listing:
*Fast Real-Time Scanning engine - catch and block spyware before it is executed (EXE and CAB files supported) with signature-based scanning for known spyware and heuristic/generic detection capabilities to catch new/mutated spyware
*Download Protection - prevent spyware from being download in Internet Explorer
*Browser Hijacking Protection - stop browser hijacking activity in real-time
*SG LiveUpdate - provides an easy updating solution
*Small size - with a small size and small definition sizes, download and updates are quick
*Report Capabilities - keep a detailed log of all spyware detected
Spyware files are blocked before being opened or run - they are not simply shut down after they are loaded in memory (and after they have performed their tasks)
*It's a free download
SpywareGuard is a work-in-progress.
We cannot guarantee that it will not conflict with other security software on your machine.
However we do strive to fix any compatibility problems that may arise.
If you are worried about potential compatibility issues with SpywareGuard, we recommend you download SpywareBlaster instead." _________________ “He saw reality too clearly. Faulty denial mechanism.

SpywareGuard has been around for awhile, so I wouldn't call it new. Although, I bet it is new to you _________________ Nick's Security Ticker

Far too many things in life are "new" to me anymore. Dang, and I put some real effort into copying 'n pasting all of that! _________________ “He saw reality too clearly. Faulty denial mechanism.
