News: Super-Lite Version of AGNIS Now Available

The Mar. 22, 2004 version of AGNIS introduced a new version of the AGNIS lists: a "super-lite" 
block list for AtGuard and NIS/NPF users. This "super-lite" version is about 1/3 the size of 
the full list and can be found in the \SUP sub-directory of the AGNIS installation directory.

What the "Super-Lite" Version Contains

This "super-lite" version contains the following sections from the original, "full" ad block list:

   PHRASES
   PREFIXES
   WEB BUGS
   BIG AD DOMAINS
   ADULT NETWORKS/SERVICES

It does NOT contain the following sections from the original, "full" ad block block list:

   EMAIL NASTIES
   MISC AD DOMAINS
   CRAPWARE DOMAINS
   DIALERS
   ADULT HOSTING
   MISC SERVERS
   HYBRIDS
   NOT FOR EVERYONE
   REMOVED

This "super-lite" version was created primarily to assist AtGuard users who might be experiencing 
problems (errors, system crashes) with one of the larger lists. A version for NIS/NPF users has 
also been included, though.

As this new "super-lite" version contains only a small sub-set of the "full" list, it will probably
not be updated as frequently as the "full" and "lite" versions. It will be updated only when new 
entries for its five main sections are added. Users can track new entries that have been added to 
the AGNIS list by checking the following "change list":

Installing & Using the "Super-Lite" Version
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You can install this new "super-lite" version in either the following ways:

1) Manually, by double-clicking on the AG-SUP.REG or NIS-SUP.REG file in the 
   \SUP sub-directory.

2) Automatically, by running the AGNIS.BAT batch file utility and selcting
   "INSTALL" from the main menu. 


Note the users of later versions of NIS and NPF should be using the ProWAGoN utility to load and 
remove AGNIS lists:
